UNC 101, Freshman Seminar, is a credit-bearing elective course designed to contribute to the Undergraduate Advising Center mission to provide academic advising and support programs to strength student success, retention, and progress toward degree completion. The specific mission of UNC 101 includes five goals: to introduce students to college level analytical/ critical thinking; to develop new university students’ research skills; to introduce students to the benefits of belonging to a scholarly community; to cultivate an appreciation for learning and finding one’s intellectual passion; and to orient new students to campus life. These goals are focused on the mission of acculturating, nurturing, and retaining new students into their second year at the university.
